Dirk Rosenlöcher was born in Dresden and has been living and working as a filmmaker in Cologne for several years. After finishing his bachelor's degree in Film & Sound at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Dortmund, he completed his postgraduate diploma at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne with the script for "Living Like Candice”. As a direct follow up to his studies, he turned that script into his first feature film, funded by the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW. His work has received international awards, including the web series "Disoccalypse" as "Best international Weberies" at the Raindance Festival London, which was also funded by the Film- und Medienstiftung and also licensed by Canal+/Vivendi.
Candice faces her own death. An existential confrontation with finitude, also for german writer Wolfgang Herrndorf. After being diagnosed with a brain tumor, he wrote the cult novel Tschick in a short time before ending his life on his own terms. No matter which path out of life a person in such a situation chooses, the value of every second weighs heavily. Coming to terms with finitude in the form of Candice is vital especially for Friedemann, the son of a suicide victim. But when it comes to suicides in the family, there are often major difficulties to communicate. Repression, silence and the desire to escape the pain of loss threaten to consume Friedemann. They keep him from realizing the value of the last moments that remain for him and Candice together. The stirring story of the two is not meant to provide ready answers, but to inspire intimate questions. About loss, vulnerability, finitude. And about what makes our lives truly worth living.
