Director Statement

CHAOS AND SILENCE is about a woman’s attempt to free herself from her ego by completely withdrawing from the world. Her act of resistance and her urge for freedom is doomed to fail. But it creates glimpses of hope. Moments of silence. Moments for music. For humanity and unity.
The film portrays a current mood of our (i.e. the german) society. It shows a world out of balance. People’s existential loneliness and their desire for healing. Their longing for silence in a world which is too fast and too loud. In the end we witness how chaos and silence finally meet.
The film brings up the question what we leave behind and what remains of us. Music is a possible answer: Jean‘s delicate compositions of silence, his form of memory. About Klara and her disappearance. About the mystery and beauty of life.
